This is a really great product for the price! The filter was packaged well, came within a timely manner, and was very simple to install. FYI, I’m using this filter as a replacement for a GE RPWFE filter. I simply removed the chip/sticker from my original GE RPWFE filter, stuck the chip/sticker to the back of the filter docking area, and installed this RPWF filter. On my fridge, within the settings i have the option to reset the water filter timer and everything has worked flawlessly. Most importantly, the water filter is doing its job and my water and ice taste great again! Great product and actually really great customer service. I received an extremely friendly email from a customer service rep asking if i had received my package and if i was satisfied with the product. Great service, great product. I’ll be ordering again in 6 months.

Use RFWF in RPWFE unit without the past due displays showing. Invest 20 minutes time, and three pieces of black electrical tape. You will need a phillips screwdriver to remove two screws on the underside of the panel and a T10 torx driver for the four printed circuit screws. I have unplugged the circuit board with the power on with no adverse effects. Tape over the offending graphics re assemble and you are done. When initially taking the panel off make note that it slides down then out. It goes on the same way center underneath then push up into the four locator holes. Do not force it to bend in, take your time. You now have access to filters for 1/4 the cost of a GE RPWFE. Enjoy. A more high tech approach; I just bought a RFID reader reprogrammer with blank cards and blank chips that read’s the 10 of the most common RFID frequencies, I had the hope of reading and reprograming the existing RFID chip in the RPWFE filter. Well the RFID chip, is not typical, it does not read @ 125, 250, 375, 500, 625, 750, 875, 1000, kHz or 13.56 Mhz. I was hoping to read and either re program or clone another RFID serial number to fool the frig that it got a new filter. Well, that is not going anywhere soon. I know there is an answer and it will be found. Ge uses a 13.56 MHz RFID chip that has a dual oriented read/return signal. It accepts an instruction to transmit its unique to the filter code in one orientation but reads the return signal 90 degrees out of phase. This is why a typical 13.56 MHz RFID reader will not program a new chip for it.

This says it is NOT for the ‘E’ (RPWF E) however, with a simple ‘Work Around’, it can be used in a GE Profile Series refrigerator. GE uses the ‘E’ series water filter with a simple RFID tag as a SHAMEFUL marketing/sales ‘Gimmick’ to justify TRIPPING the price of a good water filter. What benefit does the RFID tag provide for the additional $20 to $30? -Does it help the filter measure percent of filter contamination? NO, IT DOES NOT! -Perhaps it measures the pressure drop as the filter becomes more clogged, alerting the owner to the problem. NO, IT DOES NOT! -Does it show a potential failure of the filter media, alerting the owner? NO, IT DOES NOT! -How about leak detection, preventing water damage to the refrigerator? IT DOES NOT! Then WHY is the RFID tag on the back of each filter….????? FOUR reasons: 1-Run a SIMPLE countdown timer (worth about 50 cents), 2-Turns on the “OVERDUE” light, REGARDLESS of the level of TRUE contamination of the filter. 3-Uses filter ‘Serial number’ identification to STOP the CUSTOMER from simply removing the RFID tag from the back of an old filter using the tag for a ‘Non-RFID’ tagged filter and PREVENTS the CUSTOMER from saving money! 4-MAIN REASON get the customer to PAY M-U-C-H more for each filter than it is worth and buy filters ONLY from GE!!!! NO competition, a MONOPOLY! —-Imagine if the car companies did that! You could ONLY buy tires from your local dealer for your make and model of car! Here is how I now use THIS water filter (and others) in my GE Profile Series refrigerator. 1-Locate the ‘Blank’ filter by-pass plastic piece sent with your GE Profile Series refrigerator (found this from another reviewer noting there was an RFDI tag on the back of the by-pass). 2-Locate the label “BACK This side must face inward” and peel it off. (see the picture) 3-Remove the RFID tag under the label. 4-Open the water filter housing cover inside the refrigerator. 5-Place the RFID tag over the ‘FCC’ label on the back inside the filter housing near the screw, hold in place by re-using the label you peeled off the ‘Blank’ filter by-pass. (see picture) NOW you can install ANY water filter compatible with GE RPWF (NOT ‘E’), saving from $20 to $30+ each!! –NOTE: 1-This fix will turn OFF the countdown feature but WILL leave ON the Oz. fill and ‘Auto-Fill’ features. 2-The front panel will now show “NOT FILTERING” when you fill a container with water or ice (even though you installed a new filter). This additional insult to the CUSTOMER can be simply overridden by: A) Removing the two screws (inside the upper opening of the dispenser in the door) holding the display on the door. B) Removing the circuit board connectors C) Removing the Torx screws holding the circuit board to the display. D) Placing a small rectangular piece of black tape over the “NOT” word on the display. (See Picture) E) Reassemble. Happily chose ANY compatible filter saving $20 to $30 each filter change! (This filter too)

I ordered it because of the cost. I refuse to pay $50 or $60 for a frig filter. It installed the same, no leaks, water tastes great so far. Its been in for two weeks. Now just waiting to see how long it lasts. Easy to order and fast shipping. I’ll keep using this brand if all goes well. I’ll provide an updated review if it doesn’t.

Update: I am now on my second filter and they work great. I ordered and received two more to have available when its time to change. The water tastes just like the bottled water you buy at the store. For the price, its worth it to try.

I used this filter for years and it would go 6 months with no issues.
However since end of 2024 quality changed and they don’t last more than 3 months.
Even in the beginning it would cause delayed water release, which is normal first few days but now it continues throughout the months.
Found another brand, slightly more expensive that works fine as GE RPWF.

I’ve purchased “generic” refrigerator water filters before and had mixed success. We used to do it all the time with a previous brand (Maytag?) but when we upgraded to the GE RPWF and tried to use generic filters, we had bad luck and they leaked out. I’m happy to say that a) this filter does NOT leak and b) it actually seems to filter the water! Tastes clean and crisp and at a fraction of the price. Very happy and would recommend.

I will give 5 stars NOW because it works great. The flow of my water is the best it has ever been. The family says the water tastes great. There is a difference between my tap water taste and what comes out of my refrigerator with this filter. I will update in a few months after use and if the flow remains consistent. Plus , the price is great.

UPDATE: Ok, Its been close to two months of use , lots of use , and the flow is starting to reduce. My opinion as to why the flow is slowing down is the type of water I get from our supplier. Tap water has a funny chlorine metal taste. This filter has removed that taste even now. I feel any filter I put in no matter the make or price will do just the same. Everybody has different supplied water and you should take that into consideration before giving this or any filter a bad rating. This filter by far is the cheapest I have run into. So , on that note I will buy this filter again and would only reduce 5 star rating by a half point. I feel that my water supplier is the main culprit.
