   PROS: this water filter got received outstanding reviews from a YouTube video by water guru. This particular filter was only to aqua pure. He offers in depth reviews on water filters. He just doesn’t use that silly little TDS strip that barely measures anything. He goes in debt to determine how much fluoride lead as well as other solid in our water. With that being said, this is the reason why I purchased this filter. Although it doesn’t remove bacteria and microorganism like a reverse osmosis purifier… Rated well at removing fluoride, as well as many other contaminants from the water. CONS: as you can see in the picture of the spigot is almost touching my kitchen counter. It is a little tricky to put the water filter together, but doesn’t take long about 30 minutes and the customer service response is outstanding with water drop. I only had to call twice for questions. But with the spigot being so low to the bottom of the filter, its impossible to make a cup of water unless you put this at the edge of the counter. You can purchase a stand for it, but the height is only like 6 inches so you’re basically only able to fill up a small cup. It’s just not practical. Also the you have to purchase another spigot because the water level detector is an extra $30 plus the stand is an extra $30 if I’m gonna spend $200 or $300. I might as well. Just get a reverse osmosis water system and that’s what I plan on doing. Also, the water tasted sour and I flushed the filter with a whole tank of water there’s no sense in calling customer service again. The design of this is so poorly instructed with that spigot being so low. It would’ve made sense for the bottom water basin just to be a little bit higher so that the stick would be higher and with the standard would be perfect. It’s just impractical for my lifestyle.

   In my first review, I gave this product four stars because there was no way to gauge where the water level was, so it was difficult to determine when it needed to be refilled without lifting the upper section. I emailed the company and asked if the spigot could be switched out. I was fortunate to receive assistance from the most helpful, most professional, and kindest customer service representative, Harper. She immediately responded to my email and went above and beyond to solve my issue. I received the new spigot and I cannot thank Harper enough. There really should be more customer service representatives like her. Because of her I will highly recommend this company.

   Even though the TDS barely budged and it basically runs right through the filter /: we do think the water tastes soo much more clean, crisp, less drying in our mouth, and much more refreshing. However, lol…
   I’ve read “TDS readings won’t change after carbon filtration because a TDS reading includes the beneficial minerals a carbon filter like this is letting pass through, but doesn’t include the harmful toxins that a carbon filter is filtering…” but many toxins that these filters claim to filter ARE soluble (fluoride, nickel, aluminum, lead, tin, mercury, etc) and if they’re being filtered, it should reflect a lower TDS reading.
   I definitely don’t think “0” TDS is the goal and using distilled/evaporated water would be another step to leaving more solids behind… but you spend good money on a carbon filter that’s supposed to work via adsorption: it needs contact time to efficiently filter toxins and the more contact time, the more efficient filtration. So this flow rate is questionable too because it’s so fast the toxins aren’t getting the contact time needed to be trapped and adhere to the carbon.
   Ideally, who wouldn’t want to send a sample to a lab to know exactly what’s in it! We just cant swing that and the reviews online made us skeptical of the home kits too. Maybe it’s removing the chlorine since it smells and tastes great, but the flow rate and TDS reading are definitely worth knowing about.

   I installed these filters in a 5 gallon bucket as per instructions I had seen online. I didn’t do any tests on filtration with dyes or PPM detectors so I can’t comment on those things. My water is pretty decent where I live, but I just wanted a filter to just go through one time for something extra. Everything seemed to be going fine until 7 months in when the filter component disconnected from the plastic spigot portion on the bottom on both filters. I mean the entire plastic part, not just the stem. One just fell off with slight tilting of the top bucket and the other came off with slight pressure to see if it was still connected. I don’t see exactly how the two parts are secured together, but it doesn’t appear to be any adhesive because there is no reside on the plastic part. The filter has a rubber-like part on the bottom. I haven’t seen any other reviews like this, so maybe mine just had a manufacturing problem, but these things definitely failed on their own. They were never dropped or anything like that. Update: Waterdrop contacted me and sent me a replacement filter set. I’ve been using them for less than two months now and time will tell if they hold up better than the first set. I’ve attached some pictures to show what the broken filters look like. I don’t know why they came apart, but I also have no idea how they were held together in the first place. I will update the review again if they survive longer than the last set or if these also fail prematurely.

    Love this water filter. Have had whole house and under-the-counter water filters before but this Waterdrop water filter system is better. The gravity component of filtering and the slowness works better. I have a daughter that is our cannery-in-the-mine. She has serious health problems and is very sensitive to the water. Consequently she can tell when the water filter is no longer doing an EXCELLENT job.

    This is a very good water filtration system BUT…the 6,000 gal filter number they give is probably based on pristine water. We can get about 700 gallons out of each filter before we have to change it. For normal people they may not need to change it that often AND we live where there is very hard water. I plan on staying with them and will just change the filter about every 5 months. (We have a family of 7 and drink about 4.5 gallons of water a day.)

    We did try to clean the filter but it didn’t work.

    I’ve been eyeing a Berkey for a few years, but they don’t ship to California, so I was excited when I stumbled across the WaterDrop gravity flow system that’s basically the same thing. It’s a major bonus that it’s a few hundred dollars cheaper. There isn’t a sewer system where I live, and the ground water is terrible. I got a humidifier a few years ago, but have been unable to use it because after filling it with tap water, the mist coming out of it would smell like urine. I’ve been happily using my humidifier for the past few days and it smells like nothing. I also did the red dye test after it was assembled, and the water came out crystal clear. I’ve had no issues with leakage after assembly either. The reason I’m giving it 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 is for two reasons: 1) Before assembly and every month afterwards you’re suppose to prime/flush the filters. They supply you with a gasket that you’re supposed to attach to the filter and to a water faucet (I’ve included a picture of this next to my kitchen faucet). They state that the gasket will fit around most faucets, but unless your house was built in the 1990s or before, I’d guess there is at least a 50% chance it won’t fit due to the variety of sizes and shapes of modern faucets. I wish they had made one side of that gasket stretchier to fit over all fixtures. 2) While assembly wasn’t difficult, attaching the faucet wasn’t exactly easy either. They do provide you with a wrench, which is a bonus, but because the walls of the WaterDrop are rounded you can only tighten the bolt 1/8 of a turn at a time. It probably took me 15 minutes to attach it. If you don’t own a bendy ratchet it takes forever to attach the faucet and get it tight. They also recommend disassembling the whole unit every month to clean it. There is no way a normal person will want to remove that faucet every month and reattach it. Overall a great system, I would definitely recommend it.

    We own a similar system of another brand so am familiar with how they work and how to maintain them so when I noticed the water tasting “off” I ran a red dye test to make certain the filters were seated properly. I reseated them three times and both filters allowed the dye to pass through – one worse than the other but both significantly pink. I’ve never seen anything like it in over 14 years experience. Absolutely worthless filters. Regarding the rest of it, the materials are very thin and low quality. If I’d seen it in person I would not have purchased it, it even looks cheap. As mentioned, I own a brand-name system which cost more $ but in this case, I got less than what I paid for 🙁 UPDATE: After the Waterdrop company noticed my review they contacted me with an offer to assist. I chose replacements which they promptly sent. They worked! The photos show the red dye water before filtering and the clear water in the mason jars below. I also tried to show the red and clear water in one shot so you can see its from the same unit. In all fairness, the stainless steel container pictured is not the Waterdrop brand – that one is at our summer home & these are the more expensive tanks we bought first. As stated above, the quality of the unit is in keeping with the price paid. The Waterdrop was a lot thinner but also less $. Regarding the filters themselves, they are also a lot thinner than the other brand but also less $ so might need to be replaced more often – we’ll see. I don’t know how to test the fluoride filters so this update is a review for the charcoal filters only. Quite an improvement!
